Project Title: Spreading the word for child health and immunization in Bangladesh

Children of recent migrants into urban Dhaka slums have lower immunization rates and higher mortality from infectious diseases due to delays in seeking appropriate medical care. My project involves conducting formative qualitative research and developing a low-cost intervention to motivate residentially stable mothers to share life-saving information about nearby child health and immunization centers with mothers new to the community.

I will also be working on hand and respiratory hygiene in schools and hospitals, helping to develop an effective low-cost technology plus behavioral intervention. The hospital component will also work specifically on HIV transmission and with HIV patients.

These are selected publications associated with the fellowship:

Use of mobile phones for improving vaccination coverage among children living in rural hard-to-reach areas and urban streets of Bangladesh.
