OBTAINING ENDORSEMENT OF GHES MENTORS IN ORDER TO APPLY

All prospective applicants must obtain endorsements of researchers (mentor principal investigators) already affiliated with the GHES in order to apply.  The GHES has a network of more than 100 principal investigators who can serve as a mentor in an application. To obtain endorsement, please communicate directly with principal investigators at the affiliated US campus and the LMIC institution you are considering. The following steps will guide you on how to identify someone who can potentially endorse and commit to being a mentor in your fellowship.

1. Choose a Research Topic that Interests You

  • Review the main GHES Research Areas and their associated GHES mentors.
  • Fellowship applications can suggest a new research area that can be associated with existing research.
  • Consider a research area that will allow for a fellowship project that can be completed within 12 months.

2. Choose a Research Site

  • Explore the Research Sites the GHES offers as well as the Research Areas
  • Consider a research area that is relevant to the research site or the country.

3. Contact Potential Faculty Mentors

  • Once you choose a research site that best fits your research topic and interest, contact the faculty mentors associated with that site.
  • All of the GHES mentors are aware that they may receive e-mails from potential applicants. Please be ready to share your CV or biosketch and your specific research interests.
  • Outline why you would like to apply, your how your interests apply to their potential mentorship.
  • Follow-up with a GHES mentor can include setting up conversations via online, in-person, phone calls. The GHES mentor will need to write a detailed letter of support outlining your strengths for this fellowship.
