Site and Background
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) was established in 1954, as the first school of public health in the Arab world.
FHS research and outreach activities cover diverse issues and themes, including environmental and occupational health, reproductive health, youth wellbeing, aging and health of older people,mental health, conflict and health, tobacco control, health management and health policy, ethics in research, and communicable and non-communicable diseases. Such activities are characterized by their regional extension, partnership and community-based approaches,and link to action and policy.
The collaboration of different faculty members at FHS with Dr. Wassim Maziak (FIU) dates back to 2004. Research projects have focused on environmental health conditions in poor urban areas and tobacco control.
