Project Title: Characterization of Lactobacillus species and their bacteriophages among in Indian women with and without bacterial vaginosis
Dr. Shirali Pandya is currently a senior associate consultant at Clarion Healthcare.
The aim of the project was to identify the lactobacillus species and their bacteriophages in the vaginal microflora of reproductive age women in Mysore, India. We used molecular techniques to characterize vaginal bacterial species in women with and without bacterial vaginosis. We also explored the hypothesis that a loss of lactobacillus seen in women with BV is caused by lactobacillus bacteriophages.
